The Attic Entity
by Crystal

I am retelling this story as it was told to me by a family friend who I'll call Diane. She and her siblings were raised in this house, and spent their years terrified of what exactly inhabited the place before and after they lived there:

"Daddy bought the house about 40 years ago. A couple had just moved into it themselves, and only stayed one night. They sold the house to us for $100. Now, $100 was a deal for a 2 story, spacious farmhouse that was in excellent condition. They had told us that they refused to stay in the house any longer because there was something evil in it. Well, my father didn't care about that...he was getting a huge house that was practically free.

So we all moved in... me, my sister, my brother and mom and dad. At first, it was just a matter of things going "bump in the night." Doors would slam shut, lights going on and off... that sort of thing. Then things got worse... even violent.

My sister and I shared a room, and one night my mother and father heard her screaming one night and ran into our room to find her suspended in the air upside down. She was thrashing and struggling but remained this way until dad grabbed her and set her down. Stranger still, I slept through this entire episode in the bed right beside hers.

After a few years in the house, we started hearing something in the attic. It sounded like a very large man with a bad leg walking around up there. It would be a "step... drag... step... drag" type of noise. Of course, upon inspection, there was no one up there. This new "attic entity" appeared at exactly the same time my dad started to change.

He suddenly became abusive and very mean. He'd never been this way before. The worse the ghost in the attic got, the worse dad got until eventually we all lived in terror of him. My brother, sister, and I are certain that whatever was in the attic had something to do with this change."

There is much more to this story, but unfortunately this is all I've had time to get from her so far. The house is still there, but it stands empty. The children – now all grown of course – all refuse to even set foot in it, let alone live in it. They don't want to sell it, because they don't want anyone else living in it either. The brother plans to tear it down soon and rebuild on the property, though I'm quite sure that any new house would also be haunted. There is one final piece of the story that happened recently.

Diane was going through a nasty divorce, and at the time was still living with her husband until it was final. They had a bad fight one night, so she took her daughter and left. She decided that they would live in the family house until the divorce was over. Well, they didn't even last one night.

They went to sleep, both sleeping in the same bed. Suddenly, they were awakened by the entire house shaking as though someone were ramming into it with a large truck. Terrified, Diane called her brother who lived down the road. He drove over with a shotgun, thinking Diane's husband must've been the culprit. He saw the house shaking on its foundation but there was no apparent cause. Needless to say, Diane and her daughter left immediately.

Since then, no one has been in the house. I have spoken with both sisters separately and they both confidently relate the same stories. It's something they lived with for many years, and they've never cared if anyone believes them. They're not even interested in having the place blessed... they just want it gone.
