Coolest Story of the Month

The Unwanted Vision by Babycakes
When I was a little girl, my dad raised my brother and me by himself. He worked three jobs to support us, and on holidays he would take us wherever we wanted to go for our "special day." We always had a great time, and I loved the quality family time. On Labor Day, September, 1966, we were ready to go on our outing, but first we had to have a repair done on the car. My brother and I were to decide where we wanted to go. I was eight and he was nine years old. My brother wanted to go to the beach (we lived in Florida at the time). Although we never fought with each other, I was insistent that we didn't go. After much fighting, our dad finally said that if we didn't stop, we would just go home, and then asked me why I didn't want to go to the beach, knowing how well we both loved it. I spoke up and said, "Because if we go to the beach, something bad will happen." Of course, dad promised nothing would and, coming from an eight year old, I could see how he would overlook my fear. I agreed to go, even though I had that horrible feeling. I didn't, after all, want to spoil our day. When we got there, my brother and I asked for a Coke and candy bar, and dad told us he would get one for us before we left. The day went as planned, my brother, the "fish," spending most of his time in the water, and I played in the sand. After a while, my brother ran up to me and told me that dad wanted me. I asked what for, and his answer was, "I don't know. Go see." I figured it was time to go home. As I got up to go see, my brother ran back into the ocean. Moments later, there was a crowd gathered. My dad was panicking and I was scared and crying. Some boys were bringing my brother to shore. I remember a young girl asking me what was wrong. I pointed to the crowd and hysterically cried, "That's my brother!" The girl took me to the snack bar for a drink and a candy bar, and to calm me down. After several attempts by the lifeguards and paramedics, they rushed him to the hospital, and we followed in the car of some people that were trying to help. We waited in a small area of the hospital, and I heard someone say, "It's a good thing she's so young. She doesn't understand what is happening." Doesn't understand?! I knew full well what was happening! I knew something was going to happen - I tried to tell them. I tried to stop it! Then the doctor came out and told my dad that they had done all they could. My brother had drowned. This would be something that I would have to live with for the rest of my life, and although many people have told me I could work my "powers," I have laid that part of me to rest. I don't ever want to see into the future. I don't ever want to know that I might be able to do that again.

Grandma is Keeping Watch
by Tara
My parents and I now live in the house that my grandmother bought when she was alive and young. We have lived here for 2-1/2 years. Up until a year ago, anytime that I was alone in our house and went into the kitchen, the air would get very stiff. I would have a difficult time breathing and would suddenly get goosebumps all over my arms. Last year my family remodeled the kitchen, and ever since I have never had the chills. Now, however, in my dressing room upstairs, I have to leave the door open while I am in there because it will get so cold that I can actually see my breath, even though the rest of the house is 70 degrees. Also, I have all of my grandmother's jewelry boxes and most of her jewelry. Many times I would forget and leave my jewelry out on my dresser or counter, and in the morning they would be gone from the dresser or counter and in one of the jewelry boxes.

Chaotic Ouija Night by nugget207
This happened one October night during one of my fraternity's parties, when I was still in college in 1994. Jeff, one of my friends, decided to bring his Ouija board, since it was a Halloween party. He had been using it a lot lately, talking to a spirit he called Jack, who was actually a pretty mean individual. Jeff and a few other people took the board down to the basement with some candles. After about an hour, I went down to see what was going on. There were about 10 people there. Jeff and a girl named Lynn were using the board and talking to Jack. After a few minutes, another girl, Dana, came down. As soon as she came down, the board went absolutely nuts, moving at a frenzied pace. Jeff asked Jack what was wrong and the board responded by saying that it wasn't Jack, then spelled Dana's name. Jeff asked the spirit if they knew Dana and it responded YES. Jeff then asked the spirit what its name was and it said MICHAEL and said he was six years old. Dana went ballistic, crying hysterically and ran upstairs. It turns out Dana had a little brother named Michael who died when he was six. No one at the party knew anything about this, so there's no way anyone could have faked it. After a few minutes, Dana came back downstairs and told us that she'd been trying to get in touch with Michael over the years with Ouija boards, but with no luck. So she said she wanted Jeff's board. Well, Jack came back, and he and Michael "fought" over control of the board. Jack told Jeff that if he burned the board tonight before midnight, his soul would be set free. So they got in a big fight over what would be done with the board, and the party became totally chaotic. Eventually, Jeff ended up burning the board with Dana crying her eyes out. As you can guess, no one was really in the mood to party after that and everyone ended up either staying at the house the party was in or left for home feeling very creepy. I've tried to be as descriptive as possible, but words simply cannot describe what it was like being there that night.

Ghost from the '50s by Gary S.
I've never been one to believe in ghosts, but the house I live in now has made me reconsider my way of thinking. It started 12 years ago when we moved into our new (to us) house. On a weekly basis, we would smell very strong perfume, then items would either fall off a table or go sailing off. My family witnessed most of this. I saw an empty pop can jump off an end table next to my wife when I was talking to her; no one was near it. I have seen white-like clouds at night over a chair, but this could just be my eyes not focusing after getting out of bed. The last thing I saw was about two months ago at about 2 p.m. I was in the house alone and I saw a woman appear from one wall, walk across the kitchen and go into another wall. She was tall and dressed like a secretary from the late 1950s: yellow blouse, tan plaid skirt, hemline midway between knee and ankle. The sighting lasted three to four seconds.

Paranormal Killers by Katie R.
I was at a school with a few of my friends when these two men tried to kill us. We ran as quickly as we possibly could. We looked back a second later to find nothing there. The two of us met with our friends and told them everything. Of course they did not believe us. Then the men started to follow us again. This time we had a good look at them. They had dark, long coats on, pale faces and their eyes were black with reddish pupils. Then we noticed our friend was singing something very strange. She stopped and fell right to the ground. The paranormal killer was gone.

Remarkable Premonitions by LadyGuinvre
The earliest that I can recall a psychic experience was when I was five years old. It was January, 1952. I'd had a bad dream the night before and a sense of "doom" remained with me all morning. My mother, younger sister and I resided in an upstairs apartment of an older home. I promptly told my mother that there was going to be a fire that day, and I kept my dolly close to me. I was so upset I couldn't eat breakfast that morning. My mother decided to make an early lunch for me around 11 a.m., since I had not eaten anything. She called me from the small living room, and on the table was chicken rice soup. I played with the spoon in the bowl and watched my sister eat. I started shaking and sat up, suddenly shouting that I had to go get my dolly. I did not want her to die in the fire. I ran into the living room holding my stomach, and there were huge flames shooting from the large furnace in the living room. I grabbed my dolly, screamed for my mother and she was there in seconds. The fire department was summoned and my mother grabbed my sister and me and ran down the stairs to the outdoors - and to this day I cannot go near chicken rice soup! Another unusual occurrence happened when I was living in my own little apartment. I had done a double shift as a nurse and was exhausted, but no sooner had my head hit the pillow than I heard my name called out. I got up, went to the door, but no one was there. I looked outside, downstairs on the street thinking a boyfriend had called my name. No one. I returned to bed. Again my name was called out, this time louder: "Sandra!" I jumped out of bed and ran to the window again. No one was outside or at my door. I stood there another minute thinking I was hallucinating, when the ceiling caved in on my bed and pillow! I thanked God immediately on my knees and later recalled how that voice sounded a lot like my father's voice. (He had committed suicide in 1958.) Another incident occurred when I was in my 20s. I had a dream that I saw my mother lying in a casket (looking not quite like herself). I was sure it was she. She had her dark blonde hair up on her head, a small strand of pearls and little pearl earrings. She was youngish, only in her early 40s, so naturally it was more disturbing. I vividly remember waking with wet cheeks from crying. Six months later she died in a car accident.

She Sees Dead People by Phlsgal
I have had several episodes with ghosts. The first one was when I was 19 and living with my father in an old home we were renting in Virginia. One night I was awakened by a feeling of being watched. As I woke up, I saw this woman looking at me with confusion. As she got closer, she seemed to be angry with me. I still remember what she looked like to this day. The next morning I told my father what I saw, and after describing her to him he was speechless. He told me about a woman who he took piano lessons from in that very house when he was a small boy - and I had just described this woman to him! There were other things that happened in this house while we were there: shaking of the doors and seeing shadows peering through windows while I was outside. After being married for several months, my husband and I lived a short distance from my family. One day, my husband was going to be out of town for the first time. That night I stayed up as late as I could and finally fell asleep after crying for several minutes. I was awakened by my grandfather, who had died several months earlier. He told me not to be scared, that he would stay with me for a while. His mouth did not move at all, but I could feel in my heart all of his love for me and I was no longer scared! He twirled me around the room, laughing. I looked down and my feet were not touching the ground! It was as if we were floating. This went on only for a few seconds and he took me back to the bedroom and told me things would be okay. As he was leaving, the set of sliding doors opened and a cloud of white mist came in. Grandfather started toward the doors and as one of his feet touched the outside, he turned young and was wearing his army uniform. I heard the clicking of his black shiny shoes and he tipped his hat as he left.

Son Yearns for Past Life Home by Joanne
When my son was three years old, he was sick with the flu. His fever got to about 103 and he awoke from a nap crying. He cried because he "wanted to go home." I kept assuring him that he was home, but he insisted that he wanted to go to his "other house." I questioned him about it, and he described a house that was nothing like ours. He told me he had a brother and a dog, neither of which we had. When I asked him his father's name, he said "Tom," (not my husband's name), but when he gave "Eileen" as his mother's name (not my name), I was spooked because that isn't a name my three year old would have known. I didn't ask his name, which to this day I regret, because I was truly scared by this. I did feel badly for him because he was so sincere in his desire to "go home." He fell back to sleep and woke up feeling better. It never happened again. However, I always felt that he must have come from Minnesota because when he "discovered" baseball and football at four years old, his favorite teams were (and still are 20 years later) the Vikings and the Minnesota Twins. We live in New England! How I wish I had asked more questions.

Haunted Air Force House by N. Dickinson
My family was stationed in Aurora, Colorado with the Air Force in 1993 and we lived in base housing, which had been in use since WWII. The unit we were in was old, but nice and we were quite comfortable in it. I can't remember when I actually noticed we might have a spirit in the house. First, my dog would stop coming to the door to greet me when I got home from work. She would be cowering and shaking under the dining table. Then the ghost became mischievous. It would start lifting the toilet seat and start arguments between my husband and me. One night, we were lying in bed (just my husband and I were in the house) when the water turned on in the bathroom. The faucet had a broken handle that wouldn't turn on without a full-force turn on it! When the base was closing, people were leaving and many units were left empty. After we moved out, we had to go back to clean twice. Both times the front door was open wide. We had had a blizzard the night before, and there were no footprints outside the house and no one had disturbed anything inside, so we assumed we hadn't closed the door all the way. The second time, though, we knew we had closed the door well and locked it, yet there it was, wide open! Then we ran into our former neighbors and they told us that one night, about a week after we left the unit, they heard a lot of noises coming from our empty unit: doors slamming, loud footsteps up and down the stairs, windows opening and closing. They finally called the military police to check it out when they heard the back door open and close, and heard "someone" try to get into their back door! It gives me chills just writing this.

Dad's Ghost Keeps His Routine by Andrea
My father passed away in 1991 from health issues related to alcohol abuse and other health problems. Soon after he died, my sister and I would hear (in the middle of the night) my dad's morning routine: the bathroom door closing then opening, the front door opening then closing, the pots and pans drawer opening and closing, etc. Often we would be woken out of a sound sleep to these noises. Our mom, the skeptic that she is, never heard a sound. These noises continued for approximately three years. In 1993, my boyfriend moved into the house with me (my sister had since moved out). We would come home, knowing that no one else had been home and that when we left, all of the doors and windows had been shut and locked, to find doors and/or windows open. One night when my boyfriend went downstairs to use the bathroom, he entered the hallway to the bathroom and was confronted by a man's voice asking, "Who the hell are you?" Of course, this sent him running back up the stairs, his heart pounding. This is not my first experience with a spirit. When I was pregnant with my first son in 1981, we moved into an apartment, and there was a presence there. It appeared at the top of the stairs, right outside my bedroom door. I was never afraid of this presence; it was comforting, as though it were there to watch over me. My last occurrence with the paranormal was when my youngest son (five years old at the time) told me he had lived before. He told me how and where he had died and has since told me strange little facts about the person he claims to have been (a very famous person). He had never read about or watched a show about this person when all of this came up. I truly believe he was who he said he was.

Disappearing Watches by Kelly P.
When I was 19 I rented an old family home from the parents of a friend of mine. The home had been in their family for generations. Before moving in, they had all joked and laughed, trying to scare me and tell me that it was haunted. Of course, I didn't believe in anything like that and I never really thought of it again. After getting moved in and settled down, all seemed normal. It started with the fact that any time I took a watch off and laid it down somewhere, it would not be there when I went to look for it. I blew it off thinking I had misplaced it. In a two-year period, I lost six watches, and I was sure when we moved out I would find them. I never did. And I have never lost or misplaced any other watch since then. The only other incident was after living there about one year. I was alone in the house one afternoon and was washing the dishes. Suddenly, from nowhere there was the overwhelming smell of very sweet lilac perfume. I was afraid to turn around because, for some strange reason, I knew for sure that I was not alone in that house. I turned around and was afraid that I would see something standing in my kitchen. There was nothing there but smell. I ran out of the front door, scared to death.

Alien Contact Through DMT? by Sean E.
There is a hallucinogen called DMT. (No, I haven't been taking it and certainly do not recommend doing so.) It is a natural compound found in biological sources. There are tribal records of the use of this drug in the Amazonian region, and its use goes back a bit. An ethnobotanist named Terrance McKenna writes extensively on the subject. Aside from the drug's powerful transcendent and hallucinogenic qualities, there is a remarkable phenomenon that occurs when taken. As the scientific community started researching the drug, a common experience was reported. Apparently, some sort of contact is said to take place with beings. They are elf-like and don't speak in a language that is comprehendible. The clincher for me is that they are often said to be trying to "explain" the workings of the universe, the visual field and the origins of the Earth. One user reported an experience in which he saw himself flying over a primordial earth with one of these beings that began to show him that large whale-like beings entered Earth's atmosphere and cooled off for a very long time. This was the beginning of life. I know that this can be written off as babble because it is drug induced, but one theory suggests that perhaps something that created man left for man a chemical method of communication. When you consider extraterrestrial life, you must take into account that they might not exist in the same "terra" as we do. The laws of physics that we adhere to might be completely alien to an alien race. Perhaps they exist in other dimensions that we have only theorized about. This this would almost explain why the whole alien abduction theory is so hard to prove. Maybe contact is, in part, a psychological or physiological occurrence. One must take into account that the universe is very big and our own propulsion systems are in no way capable of allowing us to get a fair glimpse of it. Maybe others have figured out ways to travel the expanse of space/time in a way that we can't yet comprehend.

Healing My Pet Turtle by Oriole D.
Shelley is my baby red-eared terrapin - a kind of turtle. Shelley nearly went blind. I had grossly neglected her, and her water was filthy. I changed the water and tried to feed her, but her eyes were terribly swollen shut for about two months. She did not eat a morsel and spent her days outside the water on a little rock. I treated the water with medicine, but she showed no sign of improvement. Meanwhile, I took a course on Reiki healing. My whole Reiki group must have prayed for little Shelley and she received the light and love from my hands and heart. Two weeks passed and Shelley kept drawing energy from my hands. I started to get a little anxious as Shelley showed no sign of recovering, still refused to eat and looked as miserable as ever. Sometimes I got really impatient, as she was not even showing signs of improvement. Still I continued to give her Reiki no matter how silly it felt. Imagine my surprise when after two days I saw her thrashing about in the water. When I looked closer I saw that her eyes were now partially open. The next day her eyes were completely open and she was playing around in the tank. She even started eating a little.

Not Mother's Intuition by Bonnie S.
While I have always felt very skeptical when I have heard anyone say that God or an angel spoke to them, that is my only explanation for what happened to me several years ago. My 14-year-old daughter was giving our family fits with her behavior. She had fallen in love with a 16-year-old boy, and they decided to run away together, find a town to live in and finish high school while living together, free of their families' awful "interference" in their lives. They did run away overnight, but called to say they had made a mistake and were on their way back. I wanted to get counseling for her, but my husband said she should just be grounded for a week. He even made an exception while she was grounded to allow her to attend her boyfriend's birthday party! However, on the day of the party, I caught her using the phone, and we canceled her attendance at the party. She became enraged and even threatened to beat me up. I was also furious, but reasoned with her that she would be in worse trouble if she did that. She turned away and said she was going to take something and lie down because she had a bad headache. About 20 minutes later, my husband came home. I angrily told him what she had threatened to do and told him I was leaving to go shopping, so he had charge of her - and good luck! I grabbed my purse, and as I turned toward the door, a voice spoke in a calm but commanding tone - not one that I heard with my ears, but inside me - "Go check that bottle." I dropped my bag from my shoulder and went to the medicine cabinet. The Tylenol bottle was gone. I went to her bedroom and asked if she had taken the entire bottle, or had flushed the pills to make it look as if she had. "I took all there was," she admitted. It was a bottle three-quarters full of extra-strength Tylenol, an overdose large enough to cause liver damage and probable death within a few days to a week! She was treated first at the local hospital and then transferred to a larger children's hospital, and her life was saved. An interesting part of the story is that the day after she was admitted to the children's hospital, I took the "God Basket" that I keep and reread the slips of paper I had in it. The very day that the angel, or whoever it was, spoke to me, I had put in the basket a slip of paper saying, "God, let Your will be done in my daughter's life."

Mother's Comforting Spirit by Pamela S.
My mother died on February 8, 1970, two days before my tenth birthday. She had breast cancer, which probably could be cured now, but couldn't then. I have wondered many, many times in the past 30 years how my life could have been different if my mom hadn't died. Four years ago, when I was 36 years old and pregnant with my daughter, I suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. I lay there for six hours until my husband came home from work. The paramedics said my blood pressure was off the charts. I was in a coma for three days, in intensive care for five days and spent a total of 15 days in the hospital. A blood vessel had burst in my brain and filled my brain with blood. I lost about five or six weeks out of my life. I simply don't remember anything that happened after my husband left for work that morning. But I do remember laying in a hospital bed, and someone sitting on my left, stroking my hair. I turned my head to see who it was... it was my mother! She looked exactly the way I remembered her. She hadn't aged. I opened my mouth to talk to her, to ask her why she was there, but she put her finger on my lips to shush me. Then she smiled the sweetest smile and started to stroke my hair again. I turned my head away from her and fell asleep. When I woke up, she was gone. The only reason I can come up with is that I was pregnant with a girl, and my mom knew that I had already decided to give the baby my mother's name as her middle name.

Eerie Paralysis by Deona M.
My mom and I lived in a home that was over 100 years old. When we first moved in, I choose my room, which was right off the living room. When I went to bed that night, I was lying there and the room was changing colors, first to red, then to black and then gray. It scared me because at the same time I could not move my body. I tried to scream, but couldn't. My entire body was paralyzed. It lasted about one hour, then stopped. After that, strange things would go on at night. I would see shadows on the wall and my rosaries would swing back and forth as they hung on the wall. This haunted me for a long time. It did stop for a while, and then three years later it started again. When I was lying in bed with my boyfriend, my body started to go numb. I couldn't move or talk. A few months later, my boyfriend's two female friends moved in with us and things started to get very strange. We would leave the front door open at night while we watched TV with the lights off. We would see some figure walk across the yard. It looked like a person hunched over as it walked away. As long as the two girls were around, things would happen; if they were gone, it was quiet. One night I was making dinner, and I know I turned the oven off, but when I went back, the oven door was wide open and on high. I believe things happen to you when you are around certain people.

Angel of Death by Anonymous
When I was 24, my husband committed suicide. The night it happened, I went out looking for him and did not find him, so I went home and put my daughter to bed. I eventually dozed off, then was awakened by a knock on the door. I looked at the clock and it was about 12:30 at night, so got up to answer the door. I saw an angel with such light, but she had a sad look on her face... and then she disappeared and there stood my father-in-law. He said that my husband was found dead. Until this day, I believe I saw the Angel of Death coming to take my husband away.

Dad's Life-Saving Premonition by Tina & Stephen F.
For quite a while my father was very ill with emphysema and other health problems. One day he asked me if I had any questions before he went. I was in such denial about how sick he truly was that I said, "Before you go where?" Ignoring my question, he continued with, "Well, you have nothing to ask me, but I have something to ask of you." Then he made me promise not to let my eight-year-old niece play in the front yard as she usually did. We live on a corner and have a rail fence around the property. I didn't think much of his request; it was just a simple thing. I immediately told my niece never again to play in the front yard, especially when no one accompanied her. A few days later my father ended up in the hospital, and a few days after that he passed away. Not even a week after the funeral, I came home from work to see the rail fence surrounding our yard destroyed in two sections on one side of the yard and two sections on the other side and big huge ruts all over the entire yard! The police told me that an elderly woman had turned right up the hill, through the fence, paused in the middle of our yard, then continued driving across the yard through the other side of the fencing, back down the hill and onto the other street and drove away! It was one of the freakiest accidents! To this day, everyone in my family will say, "Thank God (and dad) that my niece was not playing in the front yard! That was 14 years ago. Last year, a young girl smashed through the fence. No one was ever injured in these freak accidents - I thank God (and dad).

Guardian Angel Pin by Diona M.
When I was pregnant, I had my baby girl four months early, so she had to stay in the hospital for a long time. As we left the hospital to go home, the nurses gave her an angel pin with her birthstone on it. The first night I put her in her basinet to sleep, she cried and cried. When I picked her up to rock her, I found another pin that I know they did not give her. It had a pink and white diamond on it and it said, "I'll always be with you and love you forever, your guardian angel." I wonder if she really does have a guardian angel, because whoever or whatever left it here for her sure did love and care for her. She is six now and still has the pin and wears it every day.

Anger Personified by Brittany
I am 12 years old and am a very complex person. At the age of two I began to talk about when I lived a long time ago. I was very descriptive in telling my stories. I could tell you everything right down to my children, husband and my everyday life. I could even tell you things that there was no way a two year old could know. Lately I have been noticing small changes around me. For the past two years my mom and dad have been through a nasty divorce. For several reasons, I have come to have harsh feelings toward my dad. When I feel angry toward him or anything else, the doors in my room will tremble like in an earthquake. As if by my will, I can make the doors in my room slam shut and tremble at my very glance. Recently, I was alone in my house and an anger episode occurred. My door started to tremble and my cat ran out of my room. He ran back in with a blackbird in his mouth. The bird flew out of his mouth and out of my room. I chased after it, and with me being petrified at the events, the door slammed shut in my face. How strange is that?! Did I make this happen?

Strange Telekinetic Powers by Dennis L.
I believe I have the ability to move objects with my mind. My own family tells me that I attract spirits because every house I have lived in has some paranormal activity. I've always been able to make TV controllers with dead batteries work. In the past six months, I have had several things happen. One day while I was looking at my Christmas tree, it jerked suddenly up and the branches all bent down, like someone was standing on them. At the same time the TV picture became distorted and there was a sparking sound from the Christmas tree lights. It was like something passed through the tree. Everybody thinks I did it, but if I did I don't know how. It was actually scary. About a week ago, I left my body while awake and drifted through rooms, floating on the ceiling. It has happened before, but many years ago, and it always begins with a needle-and-pin sensation, like an arm or leg that has fallen asleep.

My Gifts and What I See by Beatrice R.
My family has had unusual powers for along time. My mother could move things without touching them, and I thought everybody could do that, although I could not. I was around 10 years old when I went to church and had my first significant premonition. I came home and told my family that my grandmother was going to die in March and that I was going to live with my aunt. My family was very angry because grandmother was the picture of good health. She died in March. Another experience was when my husband and I were driving on the freeway. There was a three-car accident ahead, and we were the fourth car. We unavoidably hit the last car at about 15 miles per hour. I hit the dashboard and received excessive injuries to my face, knees and neck. I also hit my chest and hurt my heart - and it stopped. I saw myself getting out of the car through the roof. I saw a light, like someone was shining a bright light on us. It was so warm. I began to climb higher and higher into the air, then all of a sudden something stopped me and I was pushed back through a big black hole. When I woke up, the paramedic was there and I was coughing up a lot of blood.

Answered Prayer in the Navy by Benjamin N.
I had a vision of myself in a dream. I saw myself on a Navy ship in my dress whites with planes flying over my head. I had just gotten out of jail and decided that I would join the military. I tried out for the marines, but they wouldn't take me because I had no high school diploma. The Army told me the same thing. They told me to call the Navy, which accepted me. On the first day at my new duty station, I learned that I would be going out to sea for a week. The day I left was the day the Navy switched over to the dress whites. I foresaw the images in my dream of myself and those planes! I'm in a squadron that is called the Shamrocks, which is weird because I am Irish. When I got back, I was assigned a locker, and to my surprise on the inside of the locker was written "Oct 07" - and that is my birthday! I had asked the Lord to save me and I truly believe that this is a sign that I belong here. When I had those visions, I was really into drugs and think that that might have opened up a part of my brain that allowed me to see the future.

Ghosts, ESP and Telekinesis by Lisa B.
The stories I am going to tell happened to me off and on, ever since I can remember. My first experience was with ESP. It seemed stronger when I was younger than it does now. I would know when the phone was fixing to ring... I would get an idea of what someone was really wanting to say before they would say it... that kind of thing. I also felt I communicated well with animals without having to ask them to do things out loud, although it seemed to only work with dogs and some cats. When I was between 12 and 15, I remember staying the night at my mother's friend's house. Toby, my mother's friend, said she believed her house was haunted. Just another ghost story, I thought. My mother, Toby, her husband and their friend all went to sleep upstairs in her three-bedroom house, and I slept on the huge couch downstairs. I dreamed that I was on some kind of gurney being pushed by some male figure down a hospital corridor. He was also talking to me, but I don't remember what was said. It was frightening since it seemed like I was actually moving, and it seemed so real. I awoke fast and jumped up to discover the couch that I was sleeping on, which had been against the front windows and walls, was now in the middle of the living room! I woke every one up, and no one had an explanation. About a year or two later, as I was working as a waitress while still going to high school, I had gotten so mad about something that I stared at the coffee pot across the room, wishing I could just chuck it. No one was over there. I turned my back for a split second, and then I heard a crash. I looked, and the coffee pot I had just wished about throwing was lying shattered on the floor. Later in life, when I was around 32-34 (I am 37 now), my friend gave me tarot cards for my birthday. I thought they would be fun to play with. I would go to my favorite coffee houses and people would ask me to read the cards. I would read the meanings of the cards, but I would also get a sense of what was going on in their lives, and I would tell them whatever I sensed. I would say I was 95 percent on target. I never charged for reading anyone's tarot cards because I believe in Christ and I was torn with the fact that this could be a gift from Satin and not God. I then gave my tarot cards back to my friend. I have struggled most my life with my psychic abilities, wondering if I am Satanic or Christian in nature - or does this kind of stuff just happen?

Ghostly Prank by Steven W.
I have only had one "paranormal" experience in my home, and I feel it was an isolated if vivid one. One afternoon I was copying programs using my old Commodore 64 computer in a room designated as the "computer room." The copy program had just instructed me to swap disks, and I remember taking the "original" disk out of the drive and laying it on the desk next to the keyboard. At that time, my mother called me out of the room and I went to see what she needed. Upon my return a few minutes later, I noticed that it was time for another disk swap. The disk was not where I had left it. I looked everywhere. I took all of the disks out of the disk file, looked under the desk - everywhere - and couldn't find it. I left the room, and came back, determined to retrace my steps. When I came back, the same result - nothing. I left again, saying to myself that "enough was enough." When I came back, my first impulse was to check the disk file again. I flipped down the first disk in the file - and there it was - backwards. At that instant, I felt an incredible feeling of dread and could swear that I heard a faint, but amused laugh. Weird, huh?

Succubae Visit by Matt
The following happened to me when I was a wee lad of 17 - a mere four or five months ago. I had fallen asleep that night, and could not remember what had occurred between when I had laid my head down and when I was suddenly awakened. Anyway, I had been in a deep sleep, and I opened my eyes to find what I can only describe as a white entity floating over me. I was very frightened, but found that I, like many of the people in your article, could not move. Before I knew it, though, I was on the other side of the room with my hand on the light switch, looking back at the bed that I had just vacated. Nothing remained of the essence that had been floating over me, and my heart was racing. Whatever had been with me in the room that night, I did not like, because along with the pumping of my heart came a deep sense of fear. Luckily, my visitor has not returned.

Neighborly Coincidence by James S.
A few years ago, in the Fall, my wife and I went for a drive along a segment of the Mississippi River, which is quite beautiful that time of year. We drove from Dubuque northward to McGregor, Iowa, along what is known as the Great River Road. On the way there, we stopped at Pike's Peak State Park for sightseeing. This is about 70 or 80 miles from home. Now, in a town about 15 miles east from our home is another couple whom we know but we did not tell we were going anywhere. While I was standing looking over the view of the two rivers, I wished I could share this with someone else as well. I turned around and there was this other couple! I just couldn't get over it. This couple had stayed in Dubuque the previous night and got a late start due to a brief illness. It's almost as if someone above had set this whole thing up.

Frightening Dreams Come True by Tracy W.
I've had several occurrences of dreaming a situation which then, a week or a few weeks later, happen exactly as I've seen and felt them in my dreams. The only catch is that I always seem to be missing one key thing, like the exact identity of the person I see this taking place with! I feel everything as it's happening in my dream; it's like I'm floating up in the air looking down on myself and others while something, usually bad, happens. Specifically, one example: I was engaged to be married, and one night I dreamed that I pulled a man out of a truck in which he had locked himself, with the radio blaring and the windows rolled up tight. Then I saw that there was a hose pushed through the vent window and it had smoke pouring out of it. I followed the hose with my eyes to find its other end, which was in the exhaust pipe. I pulled the hose out of the vent window, rammed my hand and arm inside, struggling to unlock the door. I got it unlocked, jerked this man out and began to give him CPR while I begged God to save him. The whole time I'm watching this, I am suspended above it, looking down. Then exactly two and a half weeks later, after writing about it and talking about it, my dream happened - exactly as I had dreamed it! The man was my fiancé!

My Uncle's Ghost by Larry K.
In the mid 1960s, the heirs of my grandparents decided to sell the family home here in Birmingham, Alabama. My grandfather purchased the house in 1919 using the government proceeds from my uncle's government life insurance. My uncle had been killed in action in France in 1918. As an aunt and uncle were cleaning out the house and loading up various items, a thunderstorm arose and they ducked back into the house. The lightening was intense and as the electricity had been disconnected, the only source of light was the periodic lightening flashes. As one of flashes of lightning illuminated the upstairs, my aunt saw a young man in military garb, his legs and feet bound, leaning against a windowsill. My aunt was so frightened that she fled downstairs to ask my uncle what he was doing upstairs. Of course, he was not upstairs, and after a few minutes they both fled the scene. To her dying day, my aunt insisted that she saw the ghost of my Uncle George, who lies in a cemetery in France.

The Kitten's Ghost by Dennis G.
My wife and I are animal lovers. We have had many cats and a few dogs over the years, but one cat I remember with particular fondness because it proved to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is life after death. In the spring of 1991, a pretty little brindle-colored tabby that I named Callie became pregnant. I usually spay or neuter all my cats, but Callie got overlooked. She gave birth on July 28 to two kittens, an orange tabby and a gray-and-white. I was ecstatic, but soon the orange tabby (a male) became sick, whereupon I took him to the vet and learned it had feline leukemia. Then I took all three cats and learned that they all had it. The orange tabby had to be put to sleep right then and it was only a matter of time for the others. The gray and white I named Sydnie grew to be a very strong and strong-willed but loving cat. Callie eventually ran away before I could put her asleep. Sydnie was so vibrant that I thought the diagnosis was wrong, but after about nine months she became sick. When Sydnie was 13 months old, my wife and I took her to the vet to be put down. When it was over, I felt like I had lost a child and we took Sydnie home to be buried where she was born. For about a month afterward, I felt depression and grieving for Sydnie. Then one night, while lying in bed waiting for sleep to come, I heard and felt the distinct thump of a cat lunging from the floor and landing on the foot of the bed, which was Sydnie's custom. I thought it was one of the other cats, but it was their custom to sleep in other parts of the house. I felt with my foot for a cat, but there was nothing there. This went on every night for a week, so I know I was awake and not dreaming. The impact was solid and real, right down to the little grunts cats give when they jump - but nothing was there! I knew it had to be Sydnie's way of telling me everything was all right.

The Ghost of John Jackson by Gemmastobbart
When I was coming into adolescence and, because I was a brat, my mum was having problems with me. Over the weeks, things began to happen: footsteps were heard by my mum around her bed and a bag was lifted from her wardrobe top to the floor right in front of her. A friend came around who could "see" spirits and said we had an old man in the house with a naval uniform on. His name was John Jackson, and over a period of a few days he kept moving things and making his presence known. Personally, I didn't believe any of it until this friend asked who he had come for. He said me! She asked if he would touch my mum, and he said no. He was asked if he would touch her, and he said no. When it came to me, he said yes. I walked around the bed and held out my hand. I swear to God it was warm just where his fingers were. I told our friend and she confirmed that he had gripped my hand from underneath and had his fingers curled around the top of it. It freaked me out a bit, but I felt privileged - that is, until things got nasty. The ghost said if I went to school on a certain day I would end up in crutches for the rest of my life. So my mum asked to instead receive the pain that I would have, and the next day her knee was the size of a football. He said it would go away by the second week. On the second week, her knee was fine. After this we told the spirit to leave. We opened the window and commanded it to go.

Foresaw the Accident by Anonymous
A few days ago I was getting a ride home early from a party. It was my mom's friend's party, so she stayed. While my sister and I were being driven home, I got a sudden feeling that there was going to be a car accident, but I didn't have any anxiety, so I pretty much forgot about it. We got home fine and I went to bed. The next day, my mom told me to come upstairs. She told me that she had gotten into a car accident last night when she was coming home from the party. Fortunately, she was fine, and so was my little brother, who was riding with her. The really weird part is that when I told my sister that I had had a foreboding of the accident, she said that the same thing had happened to her - she had also had a "feeling" about it.

The Murderer's Ghost by Sisko809
My grandfather used to work the third shift and I would always be awake to listen when he came home. One night, I was wide awake and so was my younger brother. We were waiting for grandfather to come home. We heard the footsteps come up the stairs and to the door. He is a pretty big man, so we knew it was him. He opened the door and I got out of bed. I heard the door close and I peeked out of my bedroom door, but nobody was there. I stood there for a moment thinking he heard me and went back out. But I heard more footsteps going to his favorite chair. I watched to see what would happen next. I could hear his weight settle on the chair. Then the chair started to rock without anyone in it! I was so scared! My grandfather came in soon after that and I told him what happened. He said two brothers fought in that house and they murdered each other. That is probably why I heard those noises. They still haunt that place until this day.

Car Radio Craziness by Richard S.
I was driving back to the city at 3 a.m. after visiting friends in the country. I was alone and was enjoying music on the radio. About five miles from the city limits, excruciating static appeared on the station, so I tried pushing the buttons for all the other stations, but I heard the same terrible screeching sound. This kept on for the distance of a mile and a half. Then it stopped. It was only later that I surmised that something was beaming in on me. I owned that car for six years, and that was the only time it happened. It still puzzles me.

A SLIder Reports by John F.
I clued into the discussion of SLI, streetlight failure and other light bulb failures. It is very comforting to find out that others have experienced such events. In 1991, a woman I was in love with died in a car wreck. As a result, I was in a profound state of emotional shock. For the next year and a half, it seemed to me that light bulbs kept failing in my presence. For instance, the streetlights would go out, not as I approached them, but as I was under or very near them. At first I thought it coincidence, but it continued for a year and a half and seemed to completely defy the random odds of typical bulb failure. Due to my intensely emotional state at that time, I felt that I could not tell anyone about the bulbs, since my sanity would be questioned. However, I did point it out to my mom, since we were driving together several times at night and bulbs kept going out. I also considered that perhaps it was coincidence the fist few times and I just became very sensitive to looking for bulb failure. I do not think that was the case as several times I would be preoccupied with my thoughts and then a light would turn off. Currently, there are times in my life when I do keep an eye out for bulb failure and don't see it. I am a skeptical sort of thinker, but no matter how I look at it, it seems to defy ordinary explanation. The discussion on your site seemed to mention something about a deep or intensive state of mind as a possible cause. My own belief is in agreement with that assessment. I was in a deep state of inward contemplation coupled with a profound emotional state of grievance. I could not turn off the contemplation of death, God, fear, the philosophical, the emotional, the religious, the physical, the pain, the sadness, and on and on. Meanwhile, light bulbs kept burning out. The entire state of affairs was something for which I was completely unprepared.

Lucid Dreaming and a Strange Message by Lou
About seven years ago, I had an out-of-body experience. I was able to accomplish this by will because I was studying this phenomenon and knew that during lucid dreaming this can happen. Very rarely, I enter this type of state where I just cannot get out of bed. It seems as though my body is sleeping, but my mind is wide awake. What I believe triggered this experience was the pain that was caused by too much crazy dancing on New Year's Eve two nights before this happened. Every muscle in my body was aching so badly and I just was so tired. I started having these crazy, vivid dreams and in one of the dreams somebody I knew told me, "Hey, Lou, you are dreaming." This made me aware I was dreaming and brought me to a state of consciousness while still in a dream state. At this time I said to myself, "Let me try to see if it works," and I just floated up over my body and looked around the room and looked at the lump - me - in the bed. I got nervous and tried to swim back to my body, but I was going nowhere. Next thing I know, I was back and jumped up to call my friend to tell her. The strange thing is, all the pain I had was gone. Another very weird experience happened to me about three years ago. I was lucid dreaming one morning and the events seemed to happen right next me in my bed. A person wearing a long crimson robe and carrying a staff in his right hand with shoulder-length hair, but no face, walked up to me. I asked him (I seemed to have the voice of an old man, and I am a woman), "What is your work and level?" He replied, "Cannon Athies." I thought it was Jesus and I am not a really religious person. Any clue to what his message meant?

Little Boy Crying by TariJo
I have heard this story from my mother numerous times over the years, but every time I hear it I get goosebumps. When I was about five or six we (my mother, father, my little sister and I) lived in one of those old houses that have the open black vents between the first floor and the second. We always had the upper floor closed off during the winter to save on electricity. My sister and I were sleeping in the downstairs bedroom while my mom was in the living room. She swears as she was sitting there that she could hear a little boy crying. She turned off the TV and sat listening and she heard, "Mommy! Mommy!" in a little boy's crying voice. There was no one upstairs and my little brother hadn't even been thought of yet! Also, when my grandmother gave birth to her sixth daughter, she slept downstairs in the living room to better hear the baby cry. One night she was sleeping and she swore she could feel hands strangling her. She thought she was having a nightmare, because as she woke up there was no one in the room with her. But when she looked in the bathroom mirror the next morning she had bruises on her neck!

Feeling of Dread by Nichol S.
I moved from Indiana to Ohio when I was 17. I had a friend over late one night listening to music and playing cards. Around 1:30 a.m., a strange feeling came over me and I knew, somewhere, there was something wrong. I told my friend what I had just felt and she told me to forget about it and to lighten up. Well, I couldn't forget about it. I thought about it up until I finally fell asleep that night. I was woken up by a phone call around 3:30 a.m. It was my sister in Indiana. She told me that a very good friend of ours had driven off a peer into the local lake, in water that was only three feet deep, and had broken his neck. He was dead upon the arrival of the paramedics.

UFO in Massachusetts by Jeanne T.
When I was about eight in the summer of 1960, my parents took my friend and me for our Sunday drive. We stopped at Dairy Queen for ice cream and headed for home. We were driving back along Mt. Waite Ave. in Framingham, Mass. when we spotted some thing - I call it a UFO - hovering over the WKOX Radio tower. We watched it for about 20 minutes. After the first 17 minutes, two triangular-shaped objects appeared to hover with it, then in a flash they were gone. Funny thing is, the objects I saw looked a lot like the stealth bombers of today. We called the radio station when we got home and were told that we were the 50th caller to report the same sighting.

Weirdest Story of the Month

Medium in Training by Toni L.
I've been told that I am a medium, and that my mother was as well, which is why she became schizophrenic - because she had no trainer or guide to assist her in understanding what was happening. That explained a lot about my childhood, which for me was very much like the child in The Sixth Sense. My mother died last year, and it appears the floodgates have opened again for a lot of "friends" who are giving me information that I am certain I need to act on, but don't quite know how to do it properly. One spirit in particular has made his needs quite clear, and I am trying to do the research to help him. I know this sounds insane, but I am quite clear now that I am not crazy, just improperly equipped.
