Miraculous
Accident
by Jessica G.
When I was around three or four years old, I was involved in a major car accident. And even though I was very young, I can remember it like it was yesterday. My mother was driving the car and my older sister was in the front passenger seat, and behind her was my brother and I was beside him in the back driver's side seat. Our car didn't have seat belts in the back. We were driving along a road that wasn't traveled much. On the right side of the road was a steep hill that was almost like a wall, and the left side of the road was a steep drop off and this went on for a few miles like this. And the road had many sharp curves where you couldn't see in front of you.
Coming toward us in the opposite direction was a woman driving her car who had stopped her car in front of a curve because she saw a dog or something run in front of her car, and she wanted to make sure she didn't hit it, while in the mean time my mother had fallen asleep at the wheel due to her narcolepsy. I remember my sister turning around and throwing a blanket over my brother and I yelling stay down. Our car had ran through the guard rail, hit a telephone pole, splitting it in two. Our car flipped three times in the air as I was thrown out the back windshield. Then the car rolled down this very steep cliff three times accumulating more speed with each roll. Then all of a sudden it was as if the car had hit an invisible brick wall and slammed back over, stopping the car in a dead halt.
I remember hearing my mother scream, "Where's Jessica?" As she climbed out of the car she found me lying on the ground right in front of the car. I couldn't lift my head or move anything. But if that car had rolled one more time, it would have landed right on top of me, and more then likely killing me. And as soon as my mother had came over to me, I could see up to the top of the road an E.M.S., a police car and people running down the cliff yelling, "Is anyone hurt?" And as they got down to where we were, I saw another women running down the cliff and the police and everyone telling her if she came down there she couldn't leave. The women turned out to be a volunteer paramedic who had only a few moments earlier stopped her car because she saw a dog which she couldn't find the dog after she stopped the vehicle. The E.M.S. was coming back from getting it's routine inspection and the cops were making their routine rounds.
The paramedics told my mother not to move me because they could see that my neck was broken because the bone was poking out the back of my neck but not piercing the skin. So my sister and I went to the hospital in the first E.M.S. as my mother and brother waiting for a second E.M.S. to come b/c they could see nothing wrong with them at the time. My mother's E.M.S. soon got a phone call from the hospital asking how long it was going to take for them to get there since my mother and brother weren't hurt because they had some concerns about me.
As my mother arrived at the hospital, doctors greeted her and said they were having difficulties with me. So naturally she thought the worse, and when they took her to my bed and pulled the curtain she found me sitting up on the edge of the bed giggling. "Hi, Mommy!" They could find nothing wrong with me. My neck was no longer broken! The bone went back in place. And even today when I get x-rays done, they always ask if I've ever had a broken neck because they see it in x-rays.
No one from the accident was badly injured, only a few scrapes and bruises. But it could have been much worse if the women hadn't seen a dog run in front of her car, because we would have hit her more then likely. And all of us agree that there was definitely something watching over us that day. How else can you explain... on a dead road, all at once an E.M.S. and police car, and a volunteer paramedic that just happened to see a dog and stop, my broken neck be healed by time I got to the hospital, and none of us badly hurt? All I can say is I believe in angels.
