Phantom Accident Victim
by JM

I live in Cape Breton, NS, Canada. This story did not happen to me, but to a relative of mine. Two years ago, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Jeff was driving home from a friend's house. The road he was driving on is in a place called Gardiner Mines. It is a long road surrounded by thick woods on either side, and is lit by only a few street lights. Jeff was by himself, driving his father's truck, when out of the woods ran a woman in a long white dress, with flowing dark hair. He remembers a very panicked look on her face. She was on bare feet and ran into the middle of the road and put her hands up, as if to signal for Jeff to stop the truck. Unfortunatly, he could not stop the truck in time because she had only a few feet in distance when she ran out in front of him. Jeff heard a sickenly thud against the hood of the truck when he struck her, and he immediatly turned off the truck and got out.

A car of several people, who were driving opposite Jeff, had also seen what happened and stopped to offer their assistance. They all crowded around the spot where the woman was hit, but she wasn't there. They checked under, around and even in the back of the truck. There was no body, dead or alive. They searched the surrounding woods and even called the police, who also could find nothing. There were no dents on the Jeff's hood, where he saw the woman had landed. To this day, no one has an answer for what happened that night on that highway, and Jeff has not taken that road at night since.
