Dream Warning
by Gordo Rubi

Who could imagine our dreams can give us warnings of what is to come? In 1984 my mother, wife and myself spent the night at my grandmother's house. My wife and I slept on the floor because grandma's house was small and she already had family living with her. I remember we had plans for the following day and that's why we were staying the night. I can still remember like it was yesterday.

I have a cousin, Larry, who was like an older brother to me, but at that time he had moved out of the house when he was in his early 20s. He always felt like he wasn't part of our family since his mom and dad were never there for him. It was 4:00 a.m. and I remember an awful dream I was having about my cousin. I was talking with him and he told me he was going for a ride. I don't know what it meant, but something about the way he was telling me in my dream made me feel uneasy. I watched him pull away and I saw him take off very fast, which was not like him because he was more of a cruiser than a racer -- plus, he owned a Vega. I saw him hit violently into another car and he quickly was ejected through the front window onto the street. I saw just about all his teeth busted and full of blood laying close to a curb where an old woman was standing over him.

At that moment I was awakened by my wife and mother. They told me my cousin Larry was in a horrible accident and he was ejected from his window; an old woman hit him. I asked my mother if he was alright, but she said it was pretty bad. When we got to the hospital, the doctor told my grandmother he would live, but he did have serious injuries. He said when was ejected, his teeth hit the front window. I couldn't tell you the chills that I had that morning, but they ran through my spine. I'm not saying I have ESP or anything related to that, but I feel like our dreams can be like a shortwave radio: you either get static or reception and with no antenna you get nothing.
