Phantom Train Light
by Christine Marr

This story takes place in April, 2003 during a camping trip in North Carolina. I have experienced many paranormal events. This story is one of them. It was late at night and my sister and her boyfriend at the time had fallen asleep. This boy I had met while on the camping trip and myself were the only ones still awake. We were sitting around the campfire, and eating leftover food because we were bored. Full, he asked me if I wanted to go for a walk. I said, "Sure, if you'd like."

So we walked out of the campsite with our flashlights to the road nearby. We walked down the road, alongside the river, when we saw a sign that pointed to a wooden-chain bridge crossing the river. We got to the other side and saw train tracks. I asked him if he wanted to keep walking and he said yes. So we walked down the tracks, talking about random things. We walked for awhile, when he stopped. I stopped, and waited for him to say something. He asked me if I wanted to turn back for a reason I do not remember.

When we were almost at the turn to bridge across the river, I saw a bright light bobbing down the tracks toward us at moderate speed. I thought of a train light, but then realized there was no sound other than the river. I said, "What is that?" He said, "I don't know." We looked at it, still coming closer to us, the light exponentially getting brighter and larger. We fled down the bridge. When we got to the other side, we stopped to catch our breath. The bridge was shaking violently as if something had indeed been chasing us. We fled again to the camp-site and talked about what had happened. I saw the boy the next day, but after I've never seen or heard of him again.
