Your True Tales Creature of the Nature Reserve In the spring of 2003 (April or May) I was night fishing with my girlfriend at the time in a remote part of a nature reserve near where I lived. The lake is surrounded by thick shrubbery and woodland. We set up a tent and the fishing equipment at a small clearing at the edge of the lake. The jeep was parked a few hundred metres away as it was near impossible to get it any closer. My girlfriend and I were lying in the tent with our heads outside the door looking up at the stars on what was a very clear night. The moonlight illuminated the area. All of a sudden, the machine I had set up on the rod (which beeps if there's a bite) starts going crazy. I jumped up and grabbed the rod -- the power of the fish was incredible. I pulled so hard that the rod snapped. Defeated in my attempt to catch a fish, we decided to just camp out. At around 4 a.m., I was awakened by the noise of splashing. With dawn slowly breaking, I thought it was fishermen loading boats in the water. I opened the door of the tent and what I saw terrified me. About a hundred or so metres away in the lake was a humanoid-looking creature. It was a dark green colour with red glowing eyes. It looked like it was standing on the water. I rushed back in to wake my girlfriend and when she came out to look the creature was now about 50 metres away from us. It was literally walking on the water. Not giving a second thought, we ran through the woodland back to the jeep. As we sped off, I looked in my mirror and saw the creature standing in the road behind us. It was terrifying and caused me to reach speeds of 90 mph. I told friends, who thought I was crazy, but persuaded four of them to come with me to gather my equipment that I had left behind. There was at least $300 worth of equipment that I wanted to see if it was still there. Armed with an aluminum baseball bat and tire iron, we returned at around one in the afternoon. We eventually found where I had been camping and as I came across the clearing, my tent had been completely ripped apart and the fishing equipment had been thrown into the lake. My friends said it was probably teenagers who destroyed it, but I have a feeling it was the creature. I still see my ex-girlfriend at times, we never talk about what we saw that night but we'll never forget. < Previous story | Next story >
