Shadow People in Psychiatric Hospital

I'm a 55-year-old single parent with one of three still with me. The others have children of their own. I am a professional in a psychiatric hospital. I chose to work nights as it generally very quiet. The buildings and grounds have had reports of seeing dark or shadowy figures, usually described as a small humanoid or dark shadowy child running down the halls. They have been followed to no success.
I am in charge on the night shift as a counselor. I have seen this phenomenon many times. Sometimes weeks or even months will pass and then these manifestations begin to show themselves again. Some staff have heard voices in conjunction with a visual, almost always they are whispering sounds. What I have seen is akin to a dark shadow flitting around the main room and down the halls to disappear into a room. I have searched a few times with no success. I called in security several times about receiving ridicule from them and people who have not seen nor heard anything.
Anyone who works nights eventually sees these "things". The images are seen most of the time with their peripheral vision, but not all the time. In several cases a smallish shadow with stay in one spot for a few seconds allowing it to be seen directly. What is seen is are black or wispy shadows. Many staff have seen these creatures, from cleaners to professional staff. Only a few of us will discuss it.
Finally I would like to say that they have never threatened the staff or patients who also have noticed this. I am not including my name in this letter, nor the names of anyone involved for fear of their jobs. Maybe this story will help others know they are not alone. I have forgotten to add, sounds like that of the rustle of dry leaves are often heard in conjunction with the shadows.
