Pennies from Son
by Charley S.
My son died at age 21 in California on July 4, 2001. He had visited me a couple of weeks before his death; he had been working out of state. On that visit he gave me an entire day. He made amends for past things he had done, during his drinking and drugging phase. I could tell that he wasn't well at all. I pleaded with him to go to a doctor. He had a peaceful aura around him, like he was prepared to say goodbye to us. To me that was a gift.
The night he died, I was the last one he talked to. He kept saying how much he loved me. His wife came home and he hadn't gone to work. The door was open and the dogs were outside. He had a heart attack at the young age of 21. Immediately, my daughter and I felt him outside of my house in a light that would flicker. It made us feel comforted.
A couple of years later, I was going through a difficult time and I believe my son started to get my attention. My alarm clock would go off with out being set. My son had a great sense of humor. I used to put several alarm clocks in his room to wake him up; he was not a morning person. I was dating an electrician when the alarm started to go off. He said that no way could that be happening. He told me to throw it away; it might be evil. I talk to the alarm clock and often tell my son that I haven't heard from him for a long time. Before you know it, the alarm will surprise me. Often, it goes off just when I am down for one reason or another and I am uplifted by the connection.
Once at his grave site I felt I was visited by an angel. It was a preteen girl who glided and not really walked into the cemetery and comforted me, then glided out again.
One day my son left pennies all over the place. Everywhere I turned there was a penny. I have never experienced that before. When I walked in my front room to open up the window, I said out loud to my son, "In order for me to believe that you are leaving me pennies all over the place today, I need to find one in a place that is impossible for a penny to be. My window is nearly from ceiling to floor. There, outside centered face up, was a penny. It was if someone put it there on purpose and managed to center it in the window and place it right where I could see it, like I had just asked my son to do. How a penny got there on that day has no earthly explanation. I laughed and felt my son continues his endearing sense of humor.
