Unexplained Death Notice
by William R.

I moved to Arizona from New Hampshire in 1993. I still had some articles in New Hampshire to be moved out here, so in Sept. '96 I had to make another trip back to there to pick up and transport to Arizona. Shortly before heading back, I was trying to finish up some work on the house out here. At the time, we were still subscribing to the Foster's Daily Democrat, a local New Hampshire paper. While working on a project, my wife came out to the doorway and read me an article in the obituaries concerning the death of a son of one of my close friends back there. This was on a Wednesday. We planned to leave on the following Sunday (which we did). It described the cause of his death exactly. He had fallen overboard from his boat, and I remarked that I couldn't believe it because he was a very good swimmer and Scuba diver. We mentioned it several times on the way out to New Hampshire.

While we were having dinner in a mobile home we were staying in on Sunday, my ex-wife came in and asked if we knew that Jimmy Creaser had died the preceding FRIDAY, and that his mother and father were over at her camp if we would like to see them. Upon arriving at her camp, we expressed our condolences. His mother asked how we knew about his death, as we were on the road to New Hampshire. I replied that we had read it in the Foster's. She informed me that she did not submit it to the Foster's, only to the Boston papers, which we do not get. Now I was really confused.

The wife read me the notice TWO DAYS BEFORE HIS DEATH, from a paper that the notice had not been put in. Upon our return to Arizona, we scoured the Foster's obits and the papers for that week and could find NO notice of the article she had read to me. I e-mailed the librarian at the Foster's asking for info and described the article and she could find no notice concerning it.
