Speeding
Phantom Car

Something weird happened while traveling north on I-95 outside of Bangor, Maine while driving to a concert in August of 1998. It was sometime in the early afternoon and it was me and my ex-girlfriend. I was driving and she was in the passenger seat. This was a large concert so there were many many cars heading up I95 at this point. We were cruising along admiring the landscape, and suddenly out of the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of something coming out of the woods to my right. It was a car! The thing was barreling out of the thick woods at high speed like it had been going that fast for quite some time, only there was no way it could have because there were trees everywhere.
It came out of the woods just missing my car (I was in the right lane, there were two lanes on the northbound side) and continued across the highway. It didn't appear to hit anything and that completely blew me away! I don't remember what the people looked like or what model car it was, but it definitely was heading right across the thick woods to the breakdown lane right across I-95 North into the southbound lane in a fast straight line.
I freaked out and to my utter amazement my girlfriend didn't even see it! I remember asking her how she could NOT see what happened? During all this, when I glanced back, it seemed like there were a couple cars that were slowing down, but I did not see or hear the car hit anything, nor did I hear breaks squealing or horns. I think I would have heard it because all my windows were down and I didn't have a radio in my car at all. The car was so close to hitting the rear part of my car and it happened so fast and so suddenly that I didn't even have time to break. I was still going around 60 mph and then I couldn't see the car anymore. Also, there were no cars behind me at all after this happened. Nothing, and I assumed that the people may have pulled over to offer help, but there were thousands of people heading to the concert on this stretch of highway and we both found it very strange that there were no cars anywhere, at all.
We took the next exit about two or three miles down the road and pulled into a gas station. The attendant said there was an accident earlier, but it was hours earlier and further up the road. Apparently, no one else did see this car! There were no reports of backed up traffic in that area. Everything was back to normal after we left the gas station. Now, I've tried finding any info on this accident, but so far no one has any nor can anyone explain what I definitely DID see. I was not intoxicated whatsoever and would love to know what the heck happened! If anyone knows anything about this phantom car or if there was a big accident outside of Bangor Maine August 14, please let me know just for peace of mind.
