Triangle Creature

My daughter and I lived a few miles north of Lawrence, Kansas up in the hills north of the river. We were driving home one night along our dirt road around dusk when we rounded a corner close to home. In front of us crossing the road was a black triangle-shaped creature, about a foot tall inverted with the point down and scurrying along on two spindly legs that came off the top corners. It was about as fast as a running bird or duck, so we got a good look at it. There was still plenty of light out and we had our headlights on, so it was well illuminated. It ran into the tall grass and into some woods. I got out of the car and tried to follow it, but could not see it in the tall grass.
