"Usually when I come out of a lucid dream or sleep paralysis, I see a spinning sphere of some kind. Last night the sphere was a different color (it's usually blue). It was pink with something spinning inside of it (spider?). I stared at it and it started to change. The color changed and I began to see all these shapes spinning around and moving in perfect patterns (just like a kaleidoscope). Then the shapes disappeared and I saw what looked like reflecting water. I did this a few more times, seeing everything in the same sequence as before, but never got past the reflecting water. Is there anyone else who has experienced something similar?"

The unexplained is much more a part of lives than most of us care to admit. Ghosts, apparitions, strange visions and noises always seem to be out there somewhere... lurking... just beyond the reach of our understanding. Here are several amazing and chilling true tales from readers.

The Whistler
It all began many years ago when I was a young teen of 15 years. I have a cunning and malicious spirit that haunts me with the tune of a whistle and an apparition of a lanky, tall, toe-headed young man who usually appears in the daylight hours, always outside and often in public. This specter reveals himself usually when I'm alone. He appears and begins whistling an eerie tune that to this day I cannot identify or reference to any other melody. He walks along a road or a sidewalk and sometimes in a parking lot whistling his sarcastic tune and all the while glaring at me, grinning ear to ear, but in a mean sadistic way. I have witnessed this specter perhaps 15 times in my life, and while I tap out the keys to write this, chills tingle my spine. It has been more than five years since my last visit, and I relish in the thought that he has grown bored at haunting me. I continue to have reoccurring nightmares about the whistler that when he appears in my unconscious state he attempts to murder me in a cunning and manipulative way. He is sociopathic by nature and feeds off my fear of him. I sense when he is around before he appears. I don't know why, for I don't believe I am psychic. He attempted to come into the house one time when I was 17 and living with my parents. He whistled his tune out on the road in front of the house, but before I could reach a window to see the apparition, I felt his presence in the garage. The garage door was open and I began witnessing the door knob of the door leading into the dining room begin to turn very slowly and methodically. I was home alone and we lived out in the country. My only defense was a hunting gun that sat displayed above that very door. I did not want to go near it, but something inside me forced me to harness my fear and run to the door and lock it and grab my gun. The whistler is always clad in long black or brown trousers and a white t-shirt. He always wears patent leather shoes and appears to be in his early 20s. He is a true blonde with poker-straight hair that is fairly long. He appears somewhat poor. Who he is or what he is a question that will undoubtedly plague me for the rest of my days.

Unexplained Experiences
When I was a young child, my family always thought I was an odd one. While I was still in day care, my mother came to pick me up with my Aunt Maggie. I had looked back at the church, which had served as a child care facility, and I told them that I wasn't going to be there anymore. When they asked what I meant, I simply told them that there was going to be a fire and that I couldn't go there anymore. That week, the church caught fire. I have had several other experiences I cannot explain:

  • I have heard people walking in my home when no one was there but myself. I hear people talking, but no one is around. I have had hands put on my shoulders and the only person near me at the time was my husband and he was in the next room. Sometimes things get moved when I am not looking. My pencils would be on the floor or on a different table when I come back to them. That doesn't happen anymore, but other things that make me wonder if I am really seeing what I am seeing.
  • I was at my mother's friend's house one afternoon when I was 12 or 13. Vicky, mother's friend, had a home on the other side of town from where we lived at the time. I heard the phone at my house ring and told mom about it. She said the phone isn't ringing at Vicky's. I explained to her that the phone was ringing at our house and I thought it was my Aunt Maggie on the other end. She looked at me as if I sprouted purple hair and decided to call Maggie. She confirmed that she had just hung up from calling my house.
  • My cousin Tim was married to a woman named Caron. Caron had been having an affair with another man and my Aunt Mary called my mother to talk about it. When mother told me that Caron was having an affair, I told her the man's name was Kevin. I was right.
  • I warned my stepfather to be careful about going to work. I insisted that there may be an accident and that he may be involved. After assuring me that I was letting my imagination run away with me, I dropped the subject. Two days later, on his way to work, my stepfather's truck engine blew up and caught fire. Lucky for him, he happened to have sand in the bed and pored it over the fire.
We were about to lock the doors, when one by one the light came on, and the middle lane of the pool rippled as if wind were passing over water, and I knew she was telling us she was okay.

Lately, I have been having odd feelings about things. I can't explain it, but when I get those feelings, something happens to someone I know well, usually family.

Vision of Tragedy
Twenty-three years ago, while stopped at a traffic light beside Rucks Funeral Home, I had a vision of many friends that I knew all walking up and into the funeral parlor. I sensed that someone I knew (but not in my immediate family) was going to die. It was quite frustrating to not be able to know the person's name. Two days later I received a call form a friend that "Patti," a former swim team companion, had been killed in an automobile accident. I told the other party that she was to be laid out at Rucks Funeral Home. That is exactly where she was laid out, and I relived my vision upon going. Several weeks later, while closing up the indoor pool and flipping off all the lights, we were about to lock the doors, when one by one the light came on, and the middle lane of the pool rippled as if wind were passing over water, and I knew she was telling us she was okay. I have had many other similar experiences since then, and previous to this. I cannot do this on command, but wish I could.
