This happened to me on March 16, 2008 in Surinam. I am was born and raised in Surinam, then moved to the Netherlands in 2003 when I was 22 years old. Surinam is a small country in South America, north of Brazil. In 2008, my boyfriend and I went on a holiday to Surinam. We were there for four weeks visiting family and friends. March 16 is my birthday and I was staying at my mom's house for the whole vacation.
A little background story: My step-dad died in 2005 due to cancer. This was the first time I went back home, just for visiting family and friends and not for something serious like death in the family.
Anyway, it was March 16 at around 6:00 a.m. I know that because I was awakened by something and grabbed my cell phone to check on the time. I went dancing that night to celebrate my birthday, and arrived at home about 4:00 a.m. I went to sleep immediately. So I saw that it was 6:00 a.m. on my cell phone and I wondered what had awakened me.
Suddenly, I saw four figures of people walking past me and disappearing into my bathroom. I was not afraid, but I wondered who they were and what they were doing here. So I asked them, "What are you doing here? And where are you going?" Then a figure of a man stopped and looked at me. It was a ghostly figure and I couldn't see his features. But I got that strange feeling that it was my step-dad.
He looked at me for two seconds and started "walking" with the other figures and disappeared into my bathroom. I was flabbergasted because I'm a skeptic and this was my first experience with the unexplained. But I lay back into my bed, and after a few minutes I fell asleep. My mom is a true believer, and later that morning I told her about my visit. And she thought that maybe it was my step-dad wishing me happy birthday.
